One More For the Road
I was at the airport a couple of weeks ago waiting for my plane and I saw something interesting. As I was sitting in my chair listening to a little music, I noticed a mother and son eating lunch from McDonalds. What was interesting to me was that i noticed how differently they were eating. The son sat there and crammed as many french fries as he possibly could into his mouth, chewed, swallowed, and then repeated. On the other hand, the mother daintily ate one french fry at a time. This got me thinking if there were other things that children and adults do differently.
As I was thinking of that, there was an announcement that the plane leaving Chicago could npt yet leave because they needed a copilot(he was on another flight). When I heard this I looked around and sw different people's reactions. The children seemed to have not even heard it as they continued to play their video games or look at their baseball card collections. The adults, ont he other hand, seemed somewhat upset as they looked at theor watches and tried to determine how much time they would be late, or how much time they would have to catch a connecting flight.
While it has been theorized in many ways, it is abundantly clear to me that children are not mini adults. They should not be thought of in this way nor should they be treated as such. In many ways children do not have the abilities or cognitive functions to be able to understand the ramifications of their decisison, but then again I have seen adults with the same problem. Actually, I suppose we are all guilty of that at times. Perhaps that is a unconscious desire to return to our youth. Perhaps it is us not being careful. Whatever it is, it is an interesting thought, brought to you by Big Tex.
